On Sunday, November 13, 2011, after spending most of the day on and near the George Washington Bridge covering a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts, my parents called and asked if I wanted to join them for dinner at a relatively new Chinese restaurant nearby that we had all wanted to try.
I said yes 🙂 and we made our way down to Duck King.
Now there is a trick to Duck King. They have their regular menu of Chinese food (with some Japanese food). But they also have another menu, which is not in English. Try to get something from that. We did. My mom asked for a soup of some sort with noodles and such and what we got was perfect!
We followed that up with Dumplings in Spicy Sauce. They were delicious and very flavorful, and not too spicy, but with a nice kick.
After that, we got eel cucumber handrolls – also tasty.
After that, we had the Steak Kew in Garlic Sauce. We all liked it. The menu lists it as spicy, but I wouldn’t say so.
We also got the Crispy Duck. This was the least satisfying item of the evening. It just had too much fat (and yes, I know duck is fatty) and not enough flavor.
On our way out, we saw some people had ordered soup dumplings (apparently another item from the Chinese only menu). We’ll have to try that when we go back, which I’m sure we will, as the food was very good. One of our waters also really thought he was a riot and that was entertaining. The food is a bit pricy, but I still recommend it!
