My dad has some sort of work thing in the evening on Wednesday, April 13, 2011. So, my mom and I decided to meet up and use my Groupon at Smashburger at Riverside Square (yes, it’s officially now called The Shops at Riverside) in Hackensack.
A lot of specialty burger chains have been popping up over the past several years. My dad and I met for lunch at Bobby’s Burger Palace at Bergen Town Center a few years ago. It was quite good. Anyway, this entry is about Smashburger, not Bobby Flay.
I had the 1/2 pound Classic Smashburger (American cheese, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, pickles and our special smash sauce on an egg bun). It usually comes with onions, but I opted to go without.
My mom had the New Jersey Smashburger (Applewood smoked bacon, blue cheese crumbles, grilled onions, haystack onions, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on an onion bun). My mom also got some fried pickles and avocado with it.
We shared a chocolate malted milk shake and Smashfries (tender and crispy fries tossed with rosemary, olive oil, and garlic).
So, when you order, they give you a number stand and you find a table and then they bring your food to your table, which was nice and civilized.
The milkshake was quite good and they do the old thing where they bring you the metal tin with the extra. I love that!
The fries were very yummy and flavorful.
The burgers were tasty, my mom and I definitely agreed that the meat was lacking in something.
All in all, a fun time. If you’re at the mall and not up for the time of the Cheesecake Factory or expense of Morton’s, this is certainly a viable option.
